![]() Man, oh, man, never again do I want to go through something like that. We were taking on water and I was freaking out.Įvery wave that would come at us I would say, "Oh, no!" and the Good Doctor would say, "No, it's OK, we're OK, it's all right." We lost an oar somehow in the confusion and it is a miracle but I am still alive to write this. Every wave that came at us threw us closer and closer to the rocks, I was struggling with the motor and the Good Doctor and the Lighthouse Keeper were trying to cut the seal free. ![]() I managed to get us rather close but there were lots more rocks under the water than I thought and we killed the motor and were then at the mercy of the surf. Well, the Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter is a land lubber who knows NOTHING about boats and was driving. The Good Doctor thought it wise to try to beach the skiff on the southern point of Thacher Island and cut the seal loose. So the Lighthouse Keeper and his Daughter got into the skiff and rode out a ways to try to get near the Good Doctor and the seal and get a rope tied to it and move on out.Īfter much rowing and confusion we got the rope tied to the seal and the Good Doctor into the boat and we headed out. The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter and the Good Doctor tied some ropes on the thing and it seemed like the thing to do was to get into the skiff and tow it out into the main channel and send it on down towards Boston. The smell was really becoming quite incredible. One of the first things we decided to do was to remove the putrid, rotting carcass of the poor dead harbor seal from the rocks near the boat ramp. Today The Good Doctor and his Wife joined the Lighthouse Keeper and his Daughter on the island for a few days.
